Mindspace survey reveals how firms support wellbeing

We know that investing in our people’s wellbeing can help foster a more resilient and engaged workforce. So what are ACE members doing to support mental health and wellbeing at work? This Mental Health Awareness Week, we share what our 2025 Mindspace survey reveals about what's happening across the sector.

31% of firms have a wellbeing strategy

A wellbeing statement sets out your organisation’s commitment to mental health and wellbeing in the workplace, and a dedicated strategy helps you to meet your legal obligations and foster wellbeing among your people. The survey showed 31% of firms have a wellbeing strategy in place, while 23% have both a statement and strategy. However, 26% (mostly small firms and sole traders) have neither.

86% of firms have informal 1:1 check-ins

Risks to mental health and wellbeing at work can be caused by organisational factors like workload, social factors like relationships with colleagues and managers, or environmental factors like your workplace set-up. Most respondents (86%) carry out informal 1:1 check-ins with staff to help monitor for risks.

97% allow flexible working

We asked members what their approach is to flexible working. Nearly all respondents (97%) allow flexible work arrangements including flexible hours, flexible days or working remotely.

61% offer wellbeing support

Even if you’re taking steps to minimse risks, you may not be able to eliminate them all, particularly if they have external causes. Most firms (61%) have some tools in place to support wellbeing, like a wellbeing allowance, healthcare subsidy, wellbeing seminars or mental health first aid.

59% support leader wellbeing

Our leaders play an important role in fostering staff wellbeing, but to lead effectively, you have to be well yourself. The survey showed 59% of respondents do regular check-ins with leaders, and some rely on peer networks.

Where to from here? Let's take the next steps

These survey results show us that firms are increasingly recognising the importance of identifying risks to mental health and wellbeing in the workplace. By continuing to invest in the mental wellbeing of your people, you can boost productivity, engagement and overall organisational health.

Prioritising wellbeing is important regardless of whether you work alone or in a team This has identified a gap for ACE, and we'll work to offer Mindspace resources for sole traders and small teams in the near future.

Another gap we identified is supporting leadership wellbeing. Many firms rely on peer networks, so there's an opportunity for ACE to explore new ways for leaders to connect.

Finally, while it’s great to see what a small number of our members are doing to support employee wellbeing, it’s an important issue and we’d like to see more ACE members using Mindspace resources to design mentally healthy workplaces.

We'll also work on more case studies to share stories about what different firms are doing in this space.
